Greeeeetings fellow watch nerds,
There’s some exciting news I’ve been dying to share. Friends, I’ve learned a thing! A whole real thing. Can you believe it? Twenty-seven long years later, I’ve finally realized something BIG. Something simple, but not at all easy. I realized that I can stop thinking about ‘it’,’ and actually try ‘it’. The ‘it’ in this case is this blog, “Wristology.”
Let me be straight with you, I’m no writer, not even a watch collector (my year long writer’s block, and empty watch box will attest to that). What I am though is obsessive, completely and utterly at the mercy of my passions. I’ve heard it said that it’s both a blessing, and a curse to feel things so deeply. I suppose that rings true (even if I haven’t been blessed by the writing gods yet).
This blog isn’t about writing, or even about watches. It’s about much much more than that (at least I hope). Watches, for us enthusiasts, are more than a sum of their parts. They’re about art, and passion. About pleasure, and pursuit. And, that’s the stuff of life. Salaries, mortgages, and taxes may make our livelihood. But, it’s our passions that make us want to live.
I don’t think for a second that I can give you that much. Heck, I’m still figuring out that part myself! What I can give you though is a little distraction. See, I might not be a writer, or even a watch collector, but what I am is completely, and unapologetically myself (…always). That much I can give you (excuse me, I need a Kleenex).
I invite you to join this crazy little adventure I’m going on. I’m in it for the long haul this time. No matter if it succeeds, or if it fails. No matter if it's popular, or buried somewhere in a dusty part of the Internet. I’m tired of giving up on my dreams. So, I’m locked, and loaded. And, headed once more into the fray to fight the only good fight there is (probably two different poems, whatever you get the picture).
My ambitions for this blog are simple. If I make you smile, that’ll make my day. If I make you laugh, it’ll make my week. And, if I can get you excited about life, well… That’ll make my whole goshdarn existence.
It’s hard for people to understand our passions, no matter how profound they might be. Never mind finding those who share our passion. As a result, we resort to unruly watch forums filled with Cheeto-munching basement trolls. I’m here to tell you that there’s a better alternative. With your support, Wristology could be that place to share our watch journeys, one post at a time. I promise you, it’ll be a worthy distraction.
